Whackas are rare creatures known for their valuable Whacka Bumps. However, to obtain one from it, one must hit it with a hammer or by jumping on it. The bumps aren't infinite, and after hitting it 8 times, the Whacka disappears.
Paper Mario[]
In Paper Mario, a Whacka is found on Mt. Rugged, and his bumps will restore lots of stats. Whacka Bumps are best saved for boss battles.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[]
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, a Whacka can be found in Keelhaul Key, with the same function and purpose as the previous game. This game also confirms the endangered status of the Whacka, as the character Wonky remarks on there being only one Whacka left.
In the Nintendo Switch remake of the game, Whacka can be fought as an optional boss after defeating Bonetail. To unlock the fight, the player will need to complete the Pit of 100 Trials at least once, and keep hitting the Whacka in Keelhaul Key until he stops appearing. After 30 minutes, when the player returns to Rogueport, they'll recieve an email called "RDM Extra Issue," which says a mystical creature has been seen deep in the pit. Whacka will appear at floor 100 after this email, claiming to have retreated there for relaxation in silence. Hitting Whacka here will make him think that Mario wants to play with him, triggering the boss fight.
Super Paper Mario[]
In Super Paper Mario, a Whacka can be found in the Downtown of Crag, and once again functions like its previous incarnations. After the Whacka disappears, a Cragnon named Norite is in his place. When spoken to, she will tell Mario that the Whacka was her friend.
Tattles[]
Paper Mario: He's a Whacka. When you hit Whackas, they get Bumps that fall off. I heard that they're yummy. You know, I'm not normally into hitting Whackas, but once I heard of their tasty Bumps... I got the urge to whack' em!
Paper Mario unused: This is a whacka. That bump on this head looks like a donut hole. You probably shouldn't have hit him so much. He looks a little peeved.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Keelhaul Key): That's a rare Whacka. I don't think you see many of his kind anymore, nope. If you whack a Whacka, they drop a Whacka Bump. Those are supposed to be delicious. They fetch a high price in gourmet auctions, too. Yup, super-precious delicacies. Still, whacking a defenseless creature to get one... You'd never do that, right, Mario?
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Pit of 100 Trails, Nintendo Switch): That's a rare Whacka. I don't think you see many of his kind anymore, nope. If you whack a Whacka, they drop a Whacka Bump. You can either eat those or sell them for a high price. You did hear me when I said these critters are rare, right? Just checking. Because that means you should NOT whack them. You do understand that...right, Mario?
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Pit of 100 Trails Battle, Nintendo Switch): That's a Whacka. They're pretty rare, but you can also find them hiding in Keelhaul Key. He's got a Max HP of 108, and Attack of 10, and a Defense of 1. I never expected to run into one of these guys all the way down here! When he's attacked, he'll drop a Whacka Bump. Then he'll use that bump for a powerful attack of his own. That means we should try to use as few attacks as possible to keep him from dropping those Whacka Bumps! Seriously, I never expected to fight a Whacka. It's so hard to tell what they're thinking... I bet he gets really scary when he's mad... but I hope we don't find out.
Super Paper Mario: That’s Whacka... It’s very rare to see one... It’s delicate and easily harmed... Don’t hit it or stomp on it...

Trivia[]
- In Paper Mario, unused data for a Whacka tattle and battle can be found. This data has lead to the conclusion that Whackas may have been planned to be fought in battle presumably after you whack them. However, once he tries to attack the game crashes. This idea would later be used in the Nintendo Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
- There is a Sammer Guy in Super Paper Mario that goes by the name of Wrath of Whacka, who says he hopes to avenge the Whackas.
- Whacka has also briefly appeared in Mario Party 6. This makes him one of eight characters to debut in a Paper Mario game and also appear in Mario Party.
