Master

Form 1

The Master is a character in Paper Mario, he's the owner of the Toad TownDojo and the Optional Super Boss of the game.

Summary[]

At the beginning of the game, the Master cannot be visited as he is training abroad. When the Master does return, he can be found inside the Dojo, along with Chan and Lee. The Master begins training sessions with Mario when requested: First, Mario will battle Chan. If he is victorious, Mario will receive the First-Degree Card. Next, he will fight Lee. When Mario defeats him, he receives the Second-Degree Card. Upon defeating both, The Master himself will challenge Mario. He has 3 different forms, each with different amounts of HP and Attack. In his first form, the Master looks the same as he does outside of battle. He has 50 HP and 6 Attack stat. When Mario has defeated the Master, he will give Mario the Third-Degree Card and challenge him again. In his second form, The Master transforms into a yellow-clad, nimbler version of himself. This form has 75 HP and has an 8 - 11 Attack State, depending on which of his two moves he uses.

Master 2

Form 2

If Mario manages to defeat The Master's second form, he will grant him the Fourth-Degree Card and challenge him one final time. The Master will begin to glow, letting off a yellow aura (while still keeping the appearance of his second form). In this fight, The Master has 99 HP and have an 10 - 18 Attack State, once again depending on which of his three techniques he utilizes. If he is defeated in this state, the Master will award Mario the Diploma for defeating him. He will then tell him that he should continue his training on his own, out in the world. Mario cannot fight anyone from the Dojo again after The Master's third form has been defeated.

Strategy[]

Being the Optional Super Boss, the Master is one of the hardest bosses in Paper Mario, as all of his attacks can do high damage, some of which are even more powerful then Bowser (if not buff with the Star Rod), so a good strategy when fighting the master's second and third forms is to use the Zap Tap badge (4 bp). It nullifies his advanced attacks, making the fights more manageable.

Trivia[]

  • The Master is the most difficult enemy in the game other than Bowser with the power of the star rod.
  • The Master is akin to Bonetail in the sequel and Wracktail and Shadoo in the second sequel. All of them are more powerful than the final boss and are optional bosses. The difference is that the Master is an ally to Mario while the following three are enemies.
  • The Master is the first Toad in the Paper Mario series who Mario does battle with in the game.
  • If combing both battles, the Master has the highest amount of HP out of any boss in Paper Mario, with 224 HP in total(50 in the first fight, 75 in the second/penultimate fight and 99 in the third/final fight).
  • Receiving differently leveled accolades from The Master will gain Mario recognition from different characters in the game.
  • The Master is the first Optional Super Boss in the Paper Mario series to not be a re-skin of somekind, Bonetail is a reskin of Hooktail/Gloomtail, Wracktail is a reskin of Fracktail, and Shadoo (as in the boss) is a resking of Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser.
