The Shy Bandit is a miniboss from Paper Mario: Color Splash. He can be randomly encountered on the level select screen. When he appears, the player must catch him before he steals the color away from a random level. If Mario gets to the level before the Shy Bandit does, he will start a battle with him. If Mario fails to catch the Shy Bandit, the level will revert to having all of it's colorless spots back.

It's the Shy Bandit! He shows up on the world map sometimes. He's bad news! Get to the course he's gunning for before he does or he'll end up slurping up some of the paint from those colorless spots you restored! If you don't get there before he does, you'll have to face in battle! The rumor is that he's a black Shy Guy who was banished from his homeland. He uses the red mask to hide his identity. I'm not sure it's working...

If the Shy Bandit targets Vortex Island when you exit Redpepper Volcano, and you haven't collected the Purple Mini Paint Star from the former area, it's impossible to stop the Shy Bandit.
