"MORTON? MORE LIKE... LESTON."
-Morton Koopa Jr.
Morton Koopa Jr. is one of the seven Koopalings who appears as an antagonist in Paper Mario: Color Splash and is the first boss fought in the game. He resides in the Crimson Tower.
History[]
Mario first encounters him when he busts through the wall. Morton reminds himself he needs to find the big Red Paint Star. Mario later encounters him near the top of the crimson tower. There, Morton remembers that Mario is also trying to get the Paint Star, Morton destroys the stairs leading to the top of the tower. When Mario makes it do the top of the tower, Morton has already found the Paint Star. After Mario defeats him, he states he was following his master's (aka Bowser's) orders. He then flies away into the distance. He can later be seen at the end of the game where he is shown along with the other Koopalings flying on a broken airship that is later blown up by fireworks.
Battle Tactics[]
Despite looking tough, Morton is an easy boss if the player knows what they are doing. At the beginning of the battle, he summons two Shy Guys to bring him a pedestal to stand on. He cannot be hurt while on the pedestal. Once the player knocks Morton off the pedestal, he will hit Mario with his hammer or perform a shell spin attack. If the pedestal is still under Morton, he can perform another attack where he jumps and creates shock waves that can also damage Mario. After losing a large portion of his HP, Morton lights his hammer on fire, allowing him to perform an attack that deals 48 damage. The only way to prevent this attack is to use the Fire Extinguisher to put out the flame. The reduces his hammer to a stick, which Morton continues to use.
Personality[]
Morton is one of the strongest Koopalings by appearance. Though, he speaks in an unintelligent manner saying things like "Morton find Pain Star," and "Mario bad." He is loyal to Bowser like the other Koopalings.
Trivia[]
- If the player uses the Fire Extinguisher Replica, it will have no effect on the Morton's hammer.
- Concept art shows that Morton was originally intended to stand on multiple platforms stacked on top of each other, but he only stands on one platform in the final game.
