Magnus Von Grapple is a robotic mech created by Lord Crump appearing in the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, its the main boss of Chapter 2 and is overall the third major boss in the game.

Summary[]

In Mario's hunt for the Crystal Stars, the second star, the Emerald Star, is hidden in The Great Tree of Boggly Woods. The X-Nauts, led by Lord Crump, are already there searching for the star when Mario arrives. Crump allows Mario to find the Crystal Star and then steals it from him after Mario discovers it at the bottom of the Tree with the help of the Punis. Mario confronts Crump, who threatened to destroy the Tree with a time bomb. Mario pursues him to the tree's entrance, where he finds Crump being attacked by the Puni Elder. The Elder forces Crump to deactivate the time bomb, but he refuses to hand the Emerald Star over. He instead activates Magnus Von Grapple who attacks Mario and his party. Magnus fires its rocket punch at Mario, stomps on him, and even stomps the ground to create earthquakes, but Mario prevails over the robot and claims the Crystal Star. The X-Nauts scientist later builds a new robot named Magnus Von Grapple 2, which is much more powerful than its predecessor.

Attacks[]

Magnus Von Grapple primary attacks by stomping on either Mario or his Partner(s) with its right foot, it will move to the members, rise its foot and will fake its stomp three times before crushing on Mario/Partner, which can do 2-points of damage if not blocked, after losing around half of its health, Magnus Von Grapple will launch out its rocket fists that will ram into either Mario and/or Partner for a very high 4-points of damage, its other attack is being able to cause earthquakes which not only can do 2-points of damage, but can also pierce though defenses.

Tips/Tricks[]

If Magnus Von Grapple launches its fists, its advise that Mario/Partner takes out the fists first, seeing as if combine with Magnus Von Grapple's Stomp, will do 10-points of damage, its advise to use Flurrie's Gal Force ability to blow away the hands, of the attacks, the only one that is problematic is the earthquake, which can be hard to telegraph on when to block, but other then that, the fight's not too hard.

Trivia[]

  • The French name for Magnus von Grapple is "Cruxobot" which is a pun on "crux-" (a prefix referring to a cross) and "robot."
  • In Super Paper Mario, one of the items on Francis's "things to get" list is a Magnus Von Grapple action figure.
  • Brobot is Magnus von Grapple's Super Paper Mario equivalent. Also, the upgraded version of Magnus is the equivalent of the upgraded Brobot.
  • The earthquake attack works oddly, as Flurrie is immune to the attack, but Koops can not superguard the move, which knocks him over, while Mario and Goombella can.
