Ludwig von Koopa, or just Ludwig, is a boss that only appears in Paper Mario: Color Splash.
Appearance[]
Ludwig takes his design from Mario Kart 8, the only difference being that his eyebrows are black.
Battle[]
Ludwig is found in Fort Cobalt, guarding the Blue Big Paint Star. During battle, Ludwig utilizes his Super Ludship. He fires bombs, dealing 20 damage. He will also attack with his wand, which deals 13 damage. By using a Tail card, Mario can reflect cannonballs into Ludwig. Hitting him 3 times will destroy his battleship. After the first hit, Ludwig summons two Koopa Paratroopas to fight alongside him. After the second hit, he summons two Spikes who can only be defeated by deflecting their spike balls with a Tail card. After the third hit, the Ludship sinks and Ludwig retreats into his Ludsub. This is impenetrable to normal attacks, and can only be destroyed with a Balloon thing card.

- During his boss battle, he makes multiple classical music puns, referencing the famous composer, Ludwig van Beethoven, that he was named after.
- The minions who help Ludwig in battle against Mario talk like actual soldiers with serious jobs. This is similar to Ludwig who seems to take his job very seriously as shown by the fact he was working on his Super Ludship and Super Ludsub specifically for the battle as well as planned out diving underwater with his Super Ludsub, not to mention Ludwig spoke like an actual soldier with a serious job when reporting to Bowser about Bowser Junior growing up in Bowser Junior's Journey. (Similarly, the minions helping Iggy in battle mock Mario when he misses their chariots, similarly to how Iggy's personality is like, while the minions on the Sunset Express don't want to do the thankless work Bowser orders them to, but feel as though they are forced to do so, similarly to Larry doing what Bowser says to avoid being yelled at and when doing so, wants to get it over with.)
- Ludwig demonstrates that he is the most excellent with strategy out of all the Koopalings when fighting Mario. This is a consistent fact about Ludwig in many games, especially Bowser Junior's Journey.
- After losing to Mario, Ludwig says he'll just have to hope Bowser defeats Mario. This implies he has little faith in the rest of the Koopalings after him. (which is fair considering Larry is lazy slacker who literally doesn't even try as he said himself in Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser, so much for Larry having any strategy. Lemmy seemed to be more focused on his circus show based on his dialogue when he was fighting Mario, although he used it strategically against Mario. Roy's strategy, as far as Ludwig is probably aware, is "Just tell me who to punch" according to Bowser Junior's Journey. Wendy would be the only one who might take it actually somewhat seriously.)
