Johnson is a joke character reoccurring in the Paper Mario series. He is first introduced in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and then reappeared in Super Paper Mario and Paper Mario: Color Splash. Johnson only appears in one scene in each game. Afterward, his presence is unknown.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[]
- "?"
- — Johnson in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
Johnson first appeared in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door as an X-Naut who was summoned along with a large group of X-Nauts by Lord Crump after he is defeated by the hands of Mario in a battle tutorial. Lord Crump orders the X-Nauts to dogpile Mario and Goombella. Even as they do so, the two still manage to escape it without much of a problem. Lord Crump notices that heroes have disappeared and calls on Johnson if he has noticed where they went. Johnson, including the rest of the X-Nauts, not having a clue, reply with a "?".
He and the rest of the X-Naut Platoon return during the second phase of Crump's battle with Mario at Keelhaul Key, but when Crump is defeated, they retreat. They later rush to Crump's side against Bowser and Kammy Koopa, in which the X-Nauts, including Johnson, are presumably killed when Bowser detonates the inactive Superbombomb with a blast of flame.
Super Paper Mario[]
- "All hail the glorious count! Do not resist... Submit to his rule. You will love it."
- — Johnson to his Hammer Bro. Captain.
In Super Paper Mario, Johnson appears in an intermission after Chapter one is completed, when Princess Peach wakes up and finds herself in Castle Bleck. Princess Peach is founded by a Hammer Bro. Captain and a Koopa named Private Koopa. The Hammer Bro. orders Private Koopa to escort Peach to safety while he alone goes and tries to convince his men to rejoin the Koopa Troop. He eventually runs into Johnson who's already been brainwashed and tells him (Johnson) that he is his captain and orders him to drop down and give him 20 (possibly meaning doing push-ups). Johnson not giving him an answer and refuses as his loyalty is already under Count Bleck. Nastasia shows up and brainwashes the captain as well, leaving Peach and Private Koopa on their own. Johnson is again seen aiding Nastasia and the other brainwashed troops (including the Captain) in cornering Peach and Private Koopa outside the bridge of Castle Bleck. Only the Koopa ends up submitting while an unkown cube interrupts and transports the princess from the scene. After this, Johnson including Private Koopa and the Captain are not seen again.
Paper Mario: Color Splash[]
Johnson appears in the Red Chapter of Paper Mario: Color Splash, as one of the six Shy Guys riding the airship over the Crimson Tower. It appears that Johnson's job is to take care of the ship´s anchor, but when the ship attempts to fly away with a large bucket of red paint, the anchor is still on the ground, forcing them to stop and one shy guy to fall off the ship. One of the ship's passengers yelling at Johnson because of his incompetence: "DANG IT, JOHNSON! I TOLD you to pull up the anchor!", before asking Mario to pull it up.
Trivia[]
- Johnson and Crump are the only two X-Nauts with names. Johnson and Crump are also the names of two of the Big Five in the anime, Yu-Gi-Oh.
