Handaconda is a creation of Scissors and boss fight in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It is the second boss of Chapter 5 and overall the twelfth boss of the game.

History[]

Paper Mario: The Origami King[]

Handaconda is first seen snatching Olivia away in Bowser's Castle while Mario searches for a key. It is a type of Cutout Soldier, which are created by Scissors. Despite its efforts, Mario was able to free Olivia and defeat this monster.

Attacks[]

Handaconda possesses three attacks. Its first attack consists of it grabbing Mario and throwing him. The second is a counter throw, performed if Mario attempts to attack the Handaconda. The final attack is a punch.

Strategy[]

First Phase[]

In the main hall before the throne room, Mario fights it.

During the first stage, the player has to first get Olivia out of the monsters grasp. In order to damage it, Mario must use the Hammer on the second to last ring area to not only do damage, but also loosen the Handaconda's grip on Olivia. The player should be very careful as to not place the attack panel on the last ring, since the Handaconda will "flick" it off with its finger, wasting a turn.

Second Phase[]

After the Handaconda loses around half of its HP, Olivia will be free from its grasp. The Handaconda then changes all Vellumental attacks to rock, paper, and scissors attack. During this stage, the player has to land on the panel that has the advantage. The Handaconda hints at its future move by doing a series of movements with its hand.

  • Rock: If the Handaconda is making a fist, it is choosing rock, which can be countered by paper.
  • Paper: If the Handaconda is holds its hand flat, it is choosing paper, which can be countered by scissors.
  • Scissors: If the Handaconda is holding up two fingers, it is choosing scissors, which can be countered by rock.

Depending on the outtake, it can result in the following. If Mario is able to correctly counter the Handaconda with the right move, he can preform the 1,000-Fold Arms attack, doing damage. If Mario loses the match, then he will have to block the Handaconda's punch attack. Depending on how close Mario is to Handaconda, it will play out the difficulty in two ways. The farther away that Mario is from Hanoconda, the less damage that he'll do if he wins the Rock, Paper Scissors, but the easier it is to block Handaconda should it win the Rock, Paper Scissors, if Mario is close to Handaconda, it makes it harder to block its' attack should it win the Rock, Paper, Scissors, but Mario will be able to do more damage if he wins the Rock, Paper, Scissors. If Mario and the Handaconda pick the same attack, Handaconda's hand will get bigger and perform a significantly stronger attack against Mario.

Trivia[]

  • Handaconda is very similar to Rubber Band, seeing as both are bosses made from string-like objects, both can grab Mario, both bosses can remove panels thought means, both bosses are immune to Items, both can only be defeated by the 1,000 Fold arms and both are able to hit Mario during the 1,000 Folded-Arm section.
    • Coincidentally, both are the second bosses of that Chapter and are also fought in evens (Rubber Band is the fourth boss, while Handaconda is the twelfth boss).
  • Handaconda is the fourth and the last boss in Paper Mario: The Origami King that can only be defeated by Mario's 1,000 Folded-Arm attack, the first being Rubber Band, the second being the Fire Vellumental and the third being Tape.
  • Handaconda is the second and the last boss in Paper Mario: The Origami King to not be either one of the Vellumentals or one of the Legion of Stationery, the first being the Boss Sumo Bro.
  • Handaconda's name comes from the words "Hand" and "Anaconda". The Handaconda greatly resembles a curled up anaconda with a hand for a head, hence the portmanteau.
