The Big Paint Stars are the main power source of the Prisma Fountain, and are the main collectible in Paper Mario: Color Splash.
Story[]
Before Mario came to Prism Island, Bowser messed around in the Prisma Fountain and ended up becoming possessed by the black paint. He threw all the Big Paint Stars out of Port Prisma and ordered six of his seven Koopalings to guard them until further notice. This is likely because the Black Paint wished for an infinite supply of paint to use for its plan.
Mario is tasked by Huey to travel through Prism Island and collect the Big Paint Stars to restore the Prisma Fountain to its original state. Each time a Big Paint Star is rescued, a memory telling the story of the attack on Port Prisma is recovered.
When all six of them are collected, they will create a rainbow road in the Fountain that leads to Black Bowser's Castle.
Locations[]
Red Big Paint Star: in the Crimson Tower, after battling Morton. It recolors the Scarlet Gate in Sunglow Ridge.
Yellow Big Paint Star: in the Golden Coliseum, after battling Iggy. It recolors a giant coin in Mondo Woods.
Blue Big Paint Star: in Fort Cobalt, after battling Ludwig. It recolors a section of the ocean surrounding a ship in Violet Passage.
Purple Big Paint Star: at Fortune Island, after battling Wendy. It recolors a huge hole in Mustard Cafe.
Orange Big Paint Star: appears in Starlight Cape, a minor area in the Sunset Express level, after battling Larry. It recolors the fossil of a Draggadon in Marmalade Valley.
Green Big Paint Star: in the Emerald Circus, after battling Lemmy. It recolors Luigi's kart.
